Job Summary
The Ministry of Justice is responsible for all aspects of justice including criminal, family, and civil justice systems and is responsible for the delivery of one of the largest and most important agendas in Government.As the largest operational department in Government, with over 90,000 people working within its prisons and probation services, courts and tribunals, its work directly touches the lives of millions of people each year.
The Permanent Secretary is the principal policy adviser to the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State, driving forward the delivery of Government’s agenda for justice; they provide leadership to the more than 90,000 civil servants that deliver justice services; and as Principal Accounting Officer are directly accountable to Parliament for the department’s total operational and capital budgets of around £14 billion.
