Government Affairs Specialist to join its London office and support engagement with UK government, policymakers, trade associations, and key industry stakeholders.

Your Team And Your Responsibilities
The Toyota Motor Europe London office (TME-London), a branch office and antenna of TME European & Government Affairs (EGA), is in charge of Government and Corporate Affairs for the U.K. Our mission is to create a favourable environment for the industrial, commercial, technological and corporate activities of Toyota in the U.K. This includes establishing quality relations with policymakers, administrations, institutions, and other relevant stakeholders on issues related to the automotive industry, as well as the coordination of Corporate Affairs between Toyota entities across the U.K. (sales and marketing; manufacturing; digital/connected, financial services and materials handling). Your Responsibilities
As a Specialist, you will support TME London office by supporting strategies and engaging with U.K. national and devolved Government, civil service, trade associations, NGOs and think tanks on subject matters relevant to the automotive industry in general and Toyota in particular. You will handle monitoring tasks, including daily political monitoring, supporting content selection for report-outs, consultation responses, attending meetings with trade associations. You will support with the external communication of corporate messages with wider 3rd party stakeholders. As part of a branch office, you will support a number of administrative tasks including budget control. You will be a part of a team of 3, including a Manager (who you will report into) and the Head of the London office who also holds the duel position of Head of European Government Affairs.
Team Role - In Depth
Together with the Manager and Head of TME-London office, you will:
- Help strengthen and maximise Government affairs capacity in the UK in support of Toyota business objectives
- Help promote, protect, and defend Toyota’s corporate reputation in the UK with trade associations, industrial and third-party audiences
- Help promote a beneficial regulatory environment in support of Toyota’s environmental and technology leadership, manufacturing and sales presence
- Help support the smooth operation and running of the Toyota Motor Europe London office and team activities
Government Affairs
Together with the Manager and Head of TME-London office, you will:
- Support with monitoring of political announcements and intelligence.
- Monitor regulatory trends such as and not limited to net zero & decarbonisation, carbon neutrality, electrification and new mobility trends, infrastructure technology, hydrogen society, autonomous & connected vehicles, data and digital, trade and business taxation.
- Lead for developing ad-hoc reports such as Government speeches/ national announcements. Report and inform wider business on a regular basis by selecting content and contributing actively to regular TME-London weekly and monthly reporting.
- Monitor U.K. Parliamentary reports, debates, questions, inquiries, statements, and regulations relevant to our key corporate topics and support management in contributing to the content provision and drafting of consultation responses and position papers.
- Maintain political contact databases and support with delivering political promotional events (MP dinners, briefings, parliamentary receptions, manufacturing site visits etc).
- Help coordinate Toyota’s corporate activities including preparation of presentations and speak-out events.
- Help coordinate relevant events as well as communication strategies with Toyota entities in the UK and in Europe.
External Company Representation
Together with the Manager and Head of TME-London office, you will:
- Support Toyota’s external affairs activities with key 3rd party industrial, policy and other key stakeholders, effectively representing the company on agreed stakeholder working groups and trade body committees, protecting and promoting key company positions.
- Attend Parliamentary activities (APPGs/Select Committee hearings) and reporting internally
Budget Control and Office Support
Together with the Manager and Head of TME-London office, you will:
- Support team budget control, including budget tracking, status reports and submission of forecasts
- Jointly support with office health and safety compliance and overall office management including with suppliers
- Other administrative support and tasks as needed
Your Profile
- Ideally you have a minimum 1-3 years’ experience in government, public affairs, policy, regulatory affairs or communication, preferably in a political consultancy, business, Government, or trade association
- You are fluent in English (TME’s business language), any other European language is an asset
- You have an understanding of UK decision making process and governmental affairs practice
- You have a genuine interest for public policy, regulation-making, and politics
- A background and/or interest in automotive is helpful but not essential
- You are capable of using Microsoft O365 (Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, Word, Power-Point & Excel) making presentations and have aptitude to learn new online systems
- You are dynamic, efficient, accurate, objective driven and you can work independently
- You have an analytical mind and you possess strong organizational skills
- You enjoy working in an international team and learning about new cultures
- You are flexible, supportive, and adaptable to change, and are prepared to work hours that can sometimes be unpredictable based on business need.
