About The Role
You are a Hounslow leader, with a passion to tackle structural and systemic inequality, to embrace and lead change; be outcome-focussed; and put Hounslow residents at the very heart of everything we do and every decision we take.
You will live and breathe our Hounslow values and behaviours in your role as a manager, supporting and nurturing staff and monitoring the sections budget.
You will actively lead, design, develop and drive the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Strategy to deliver a modern and high-quality Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) service and achieve successful outcomes for our residents and the organisation and our partners.
You will help co-ordinate EDI partnerships and EDI events Borough wide. You will collaborate with departments , partners and third sector to jointly tackle Inequalities and promote Inclusion. As a manager you will help to shape and support the delivery of the EDI Strategy and Equality Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan and contribute to the practical implementation of our #1 Hounslow transformation programme.
You will advice on Equality Impact Assessment for strategic and operational policies and projects to promote Equality and level up opportunities for our equality groups and by place to explicitly benefit Hounslow’s vulnerable and disadvantaged residents. You will go beyond your professional discipline and work across boundaries, within the organisation and beyond.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- To oversee and manage EDI work in our ten Equality Opportunity Area clusters and co-ordinate production of Equality Opportunity Area Action Plans for each Equality Opportunity area.
- To co-ordinate the management and delivery of multiple projects and programmes, track progress against Equality Opportunity Area Plan and prepare evaluation reports for senior management.
- Working across organisations working in partnership with Directorates, Members, and key external stakeholders, to identify and galvanise resources and investment for key bespoke interventions and measures to reduce disadvantage.
- Good grasp of equality legislation and data and show expertise in using data to advise departments and teams on Equality Impact Assessments, experienced at identifying measures to reduce disadvantage.
About The Team You’ll Be Working In
You will be a vital member of the Equalities team working directly with departments within Hounslow Council and its partners, local community groups and residents and other service providers. You will be strongly committed to placing Hounslow residents at the very heart of your work, capable of galvanising departments within Hounslow Council and its partners, local community groups and residents to be jointly committed to the Ambition to achieve ‘A Fairer and More Equal Hounslow’.
You will reflect Hounslow’s values and have a strong team ethic and show strong initiative and step up to lead with other team members to successfully deliver all other Equality Diversity and Inclusion work including equality events, equality partnership meetings, equality training, workshops and any work as requested by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager and Head of Service.

- You can oversee and give advice on equality impact assessments and prepare EDI training for Council staff and love working collaboratively with colleagues and partners and are skilled in gracefully overcoming and transforming organisational barriers to secure better outcomes for Equality Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan with a ‘Can do‘ Approach’ to tackle inequality experienced by equality groups.
- You can deputise for your Head of Service, attending meetings and events, representing the Council with both internal and external stakeholders briefing the Director of Service, senior managers and Members including line management of staff.
- Lead and manage the team reflecting Hounslow values and plan and deliver calendar of notable diversity events and run EDI partnerships to successfully engage with seldom-heard groups and ensure visibility is promoted for all equality groups across all departments.
- You are expert at working to deadlines and juggling multiple priorities and are confident in working in a fast-paced work environment
- You have advanced IT skills including expert use of Excel, Power point presentations, MS teams, scheduling meetings etc and bring experience of designing templates.
Qualifications
You are a graduate; or you have demonstrable experience working with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion that evidences an equivalent level of attainment and competence. You also engage in continuous professional development.
