The Opportunity
We are looking for an engaging and enthusiastic individual to join our Impact (Communications) team, someone who enjoys variety within their role and working in a fast-paced environment to deliver results.
As a Senior Communications Officer with a specialisation in ESG-related initiatives and requirements, you will be responsible for helping to develop and shape the organisation’s work in this space. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders, manage and develop the organisation's ESG governance process, work closely with agency partners, create external storytelling opportunities and oversee the creation of content related to ESG performance and goals.
As we build to our 50th year and beyond in the UK, we are looking to create more impactful communications than ever before. In addition to the ESG-related work, you will play an important role in ensuring our partnerships and community initiatives work incredibly hard for the business and the charities involved (Ronald McDonald House Charities, BBC Children in Need, Fareshare, National Literacy Trust and our Fun Football programme).
This role is integral in supporting our brand and reputation externally, designed to facilitate and deliver on key programmes of activity and partnerships across the communications department as well as cross-functionally.
A passion for McDonald’s is essential, and the role would suit someone with experience in Corporate and ESG-related campaigns and/or projects, who thrives on building both internal and external relationships, and managing multiple stakeholders at once. The role will suit a motivated, self-starting individual who enjoys working as part of a team.
What will my accountabilities be?
- Help develop the organisation's ESG strategy and governance process, ensuring the business meets all legal reporting requirements
- Identifying storytelling opportunities in the ESG space, helping to shape content and our external narrative
- Project manage ESG-related projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget
- Driving alignment and integration across communications activity for key programmes and partnerships. This work will require developing a communications plan and governance framework, engaging all relevant agencies, setting and delivering against KPIs and managing the communication with internal stakeholders
- Support the Senior Manager, ESG & Strategic Partnerships on the day-to-day contact with corporate partnerships, developing and managing charitable and commercial relationships to drive brand trust
- Ensuring the governance models for these partnerships are embedded with all stakeholders and optimised where possible
- Partnering with other departments, teams and organisations to deliver our Plan for Change commitments and driving the Community programmes
- Creation of community PR campaigns and programmes across traditional media, influencer marketing, social media and owned content
- Developing, driving and implementation of consistent, dynamic narrative and tone of voice to for communications. Ensure alignment across all channels and platforms.

- The wider department: working closely with VP of Communications and Corporate Affairs; Heads of Internal Comms, Corporate Affairs and Public Affairs and Senior Strategic Communications Manager
- Internal audiences: working with a range of departments across the business including Legal, Finance, Supply Chain, People, Marketing, Franchising, Franchisees
- External audiences: media, consumers, agencies/consultants, partners, charities and stakeholders
What background do I need to have?
- Experience working on ESG or sustainability-related projects
- Familiarity with ESG reporting standards, environmental policies, social responsibility initiatives and governance practices
- Ability to develop and implement strategic communications plans that align with business goals and ESG objectives
- Skills in engaging stakeholders with diverse backgrounds, including internal teams, external partners and the public
- Understanding of best practices and strategies for building and sustaining successful partnerships
- Programme and project management experience
- Strong organisational skills and ability to lead across a number of functions and within the department
- The ability to synthesize information quickly
- Adapt quickly and easily to new or changing conditions
- Demonstrate a genuine desire and capacity to understand and relate to others
- A desire to learn
