NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced nurse/midwife to work in Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS). The fully integrated service is composed of Chalmers Centre and up to 10 local clinics (pre-Covid). It provides Tier 4 and 5 specialist sexual health services working across 4 Community Health and Social Care Partnerships meeting the needs of 80,000 patient attendances per annum. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 08.30-16.30 or 12.00 – 20.00 with a minimum of one evening shift per week and the possibility of long days in some circumstances.
The post holder would be expected to participate in the care of people requiring Genitourinary Medicine, HIV, Contraceptive, unplanned pregnancy and gynaecological care. There may be opportunities to gain an understanding of Gender Identity, psychosexual problems, menopause and other more specialist fields of practice located within LSRHS.
Essential Criteria For The Job Include
First level registered nurse/midwife with current NMC registration; post registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health (or willingness to undertake). Applications from people of all ages are welcomed, subject to meeting the relevant criteria; A minimum of two years post registration experience including some experience in sexual health or related area, non-judgemental, person centred approach, ability to use initiative and work independently; effective communication skills; highly developed clinical consultation skills; and a willingness to work unsocial hours and travel independently to local clinics throughout Lothian.
Desirable criteria include: knowledge and understanding of contraceptive options for women and experience of using MI techniques to promote behaviour change.
Part time may possibly be considered, subject to service needs.
