West Berkshire Council is seeking a Democratic Services Officer to join our busy and dedicated Democratic Services team, reporting to the Principal Democratic Services Officer. The Role
Responsibilities
As a Democratic Services Officer, you will play a key role in providing comprehensive administrative support to the democratic processes of the Council. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the organisation and administration of Council meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and minute-taking.
- Supporting elected members by providing advice and guidance on democratic procedures and processes.
- Managing enquiries from the public and ensuring appropriate responses are provided.
- Maintaining accurate records and databases, such as registers of interests and attendance.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of democratic services policies and procedures
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Experience working in a democratic services or similar role within a local authority.
- Knowledge of local government legislation, including the Local Government Act and Freedom of Information Act.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate and concise minutes and reports.
- Interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with elected members, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
