At Torbay Council, we are committed to building safe, strong and supportive communities. We are looking for an organised and customer focused Business Support Officer to join our Community Safety Team, providing maternity cover for 12 months.
This is a key role supporting the Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) service, ensuring residents, partners and colleagues receive an efficient, professional and responsive service.
What you’ll be doing:
- Acting as a first point of contact for ASB enquiries and providing high quality administrative support.
- Undertaking initial ASB casework administration, including triage, risk assessment and escalation where required.
- Liaising with complainants and partner agencies in a sensitive and professional manner.
- Preparing reports, correspondence, agendas and accurate minutes for meetings.
- Supporting and maintaining specialist case management systems.
- Handling confidential and sensitive information, including complaints and information requests.
What we’re looking for:
- You’ll be experienced in providing administrative support within a busy office environment.
- Confident communicating with a wide range of people, including those who may be distressed or challenging.
- Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office and digital systems.
- A proactive team player who can also work independently.
Experience within community safety, local government or ASB services is desirable but not essential.

Skills
Essential:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, together with a positive, warm and flexible approach. Persuasive, discreet and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including high profile partners in the private and public sectors and senior representatives of the Council as well as members of the Public.
- The ability to administer meetings with a particular focus on arranging and coordinating said meetings whilst able to produce accurate minutes, notes and action logs in a concise, efficient and timely manner.
- Effective ICT skills.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Highly proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office and associated programmes.
- Knowledge of the criteria for addressing Anti-Social Behaviour and Statutory Nuisance.
- An in-depth knowledge of a range of specialist administrative and organisational procedures, e.g., production of minutes, notes and actions, reports, speeches, letters, presentations, travel arrangements and organisation of meetings and events.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Educated to GCSE Level standard or equivalent.
- Experience of dealing with a range of enquiries both on the telephone and face to face.
- Experience of providing high level customer service and working with clients who may be challenging.
- Proven experience of working in a busy office environment.
- Extensive experience of using a range of PC based information technology and computerised systems to a high level.
