PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: up to £80,933 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

We will be running up to two interview stages for this role with interviews starting from 23rd February.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As a cornerstone of the BBC’s new pan-genre Creative Diversity leadership model this role will provide editorial guidance, build the capability of the BBC’s supplier base as well as, on and off air talent to consistently and confidently meet the organisation’s portrayal and representation ambitions to serve all audiences.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
- Set and uphold editorial inclusion standards across all genres and platforms, ensuring authentic portrayal and inclusive production for all protected characteristics and underrepresented groups.
- Design, deliver and evaluate editorial inclusion training programmes that drive measurable change in content outcomes and build capability across the BBC’s supplier base and talent.
- Provide senior editorial DEI support, offering authoritative advice on complex portrayal, language, and representation issues across scripts, edits, and press briefings.
- Partner with commissioners and production teams from concept to delivery, embedding inclusive storytelling and ensuring Inclusive Production Principles are applied from greenlight to final output.
- Lead integration of accessibility and inclusive practices into commissioning and production, ensuring access is built in from the outset and supported by practical guidance and toolkits.
- Represent BBC Creative Diversity internally and externally, collaborating with senior leaders, Business Advisors, and industry partners to promote editorial inclusion and strategic alignment across the UK.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Extensive experience in senior editorial or commissioning roles within broadcasting and demonstrable success in influencing portrayal and representation outcomes at scale.
- Expertise in inclusive language and practice across a wide range of underrepresented groups and protected characteristics, with experience in advising confidently as an industry leader on authentic portrayal and inclusive storytelling.
- Proven expertise in designing and delivering editorial training with measurable application in production environments, on-air leads and senior leadership.
- Deep understanding of portrayal risks, sensitivities and regulatory frameworks (BBC Editorial Guidelines, Ofcom).
- Adept at providing comprehensive knowledge of accessibility standards, guidance to embed inclusive principles and practical application across multiple genres and editorial contexts.
- Strong stakeholder influence skills, with confidence working with commissioners, producers, and senior creative leaders.
Desired But Not Required
- Experience embedding inclusive editorial practice with independent production companies.
- Experience in developing and implementing editorial guidance and toolkits in a large organisation.
