Role Purpose
The Nurse is a key member of the medical care team at the Cambridge Central Health Centre, delivering a forward-thinking, clinically effective, and high-quality healthcare service to Dukes Education College's and associated schools in Cambridge.
The role operates in line with best practice guidelines from the Royal College of Nursing, Boarding Schools Association, and Medical Officers of Schools Association.
The post holder works collaboratively with students, parents, school staff, and external agencies to support student health and wellbeing.
Role Scope and Impact
This position is held by a Registered Nurse. The Nurse supports the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of students through both preventative and responsive healthcare services.
The role includes a combination of clinical care and administrative responsibilities, delivered during weekday term-time hours.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Pastoral Care
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to all students
- Promote physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing
- Develop and oversee individual healthcare plans in collaboration with staff, families, and students
- Support the identification and medical management of SEND students
- Lead care planning for eating disorders and self-harm, liaising with GPs and external agencies
- Ensure all boarding pupils are registered with an NHS practice
Safeguarding
- Promote and safeguard student welfare at all times
- Undertake regular safeguarding training and stay updated on best practice
- Report concerns regarding abuse or neglect in line with safeguarding procedures
- Adhere strictly to school safeguarding policies
Clinical Governance & Compliance
- Adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct
- Ensure safe, consistent management of student medical cases
- Oversee medication management, including storage, dispensing, and compliance
- Support audits of medication and healthcare practices
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records
Operational & Administrative Duties
- Manage procurement of medications and medical supplies
- Oversee medication processes in boarding houses
- Ensure effective administrative systems within the Health Centre
Collaboration & Communication
- Build strong working relationships with staff and students
- Attend pastoral and multidisciplinary meetings as required
- Act as a key liaison with local GPs and healthcare providers
- Deliver training to staff, including safe medication handling

Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse with active NMC registration (Essential)
- Evidence of recent professional development (Essential)
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team (Essential)
- School nursing experience (Desirable)
- Safeguarding knowledge and practice (Desirable)
- Experience working with adolescents (Desirable)
- Experience in a boarding school environment (Desirable)
