The People and Culture Manager will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, people-centred HR service across Ronald McDonald House Charities UK. Reporting to the Head of People, the role will lead and develop the operational HR function, ensuring best practice, compliance, and compassionate people support that reflects our values, culture and supports our mission.
The postholder will manage a small People team and work closely with leaders across the organisation to provide proactive advice, embed consistent people processes, and support a thriving workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Leadership & Operational Delivery
- Lead the day‑to‑day delivery of HR operations across the charity, ensuring high standards of service, consistency, and compliance.
- Function as a trusted advisor to managers, providing pragmatic and compassionate HR guidance aligned with employment law and organisational values.
- Support the Head of People in embedding people policies, procedures, and initiatives across the organisation.
People Management & Team Leadership
- Line manages and develops the People Consultant, HR Advisor and People Officer, providing clear direction, coaching, and support.
- Foster a positive work environment, supporting diversity and inclusion and team engagement.
- Oversee workload planning and prioritisation to ensure key performance indicators are achieved.
Employee Relations & Case Management
- Lead on complex ER cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, and performance issues.
- Ensure cases are handled fairly, consistently, and in line with charity policies, and UK employment law.
- Support and upskill managers to confidently handle people matters.
Employee Lifecycle
- Oversee employee lifecycle processes, ensuring consistency and a positive experience.
- Support fair, inclusive, and consistent recruitment practices across the charity.
- Ensure effective end‑to‑end employee lifecycle management, including probation, performance, and exits.
Policy, Compliance & Governance
- Maintain and review HR policies and procedures, ensuring legal compliance and best practice.
- Support audits, reporting, and governance requirements as required.
- Ensure accurate HR records and data management in line with GDPR and internal standards.
People Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to and lead people projects aligned with the People Strategy, such as process improvements, system enhancements, wellbeing initiatives, and inclusion work.
- Use feedback and data to identify opportunities to continuously improve People services and the employee experience.
Person Specification:
- Proven experience in a generalist People/HR Manager role.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Ability to guide, motivate and empower teams.
- Experience in managing complex employee relations cases.
- Experience working in the charity or not-for-profit sector (Desirable)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels.
- Highly organised with strong diligence and the ability to manage competing priorities.

- Minimum CIPD Level 5 qualification
