The Digital and Technology (D&T) Business within British Council plays a crucial role in driving digital transformation and technological innovation across the organisation. D&T is responsible for developing and implementing digital and technology strategies that align with the British Council’s mission, goals, and regulatory requirements.
Operating on a global scale, D&T ensures that all technological initiatives and systems are efficient, secure, and accessible to all stakeholders, irrespective of their geographical location. It leads efforts in areas such as data management, software development, cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, and digital services, ensuring seamless operations and service delivery across the organisation
Role Purpose - The Job:
The primary purpose of this role is to define, develop and implement employee engagement policies, frameworks, and toolkits in D&T, which inspire employees to succeed and perform at their best and also support the delivery of the D&T and British Council corporate plan.
In addition, this role will be responsible for supporting the coordination and reporting on EDI initiatives across the department
Accountabilities
Leadership & Management:
- Leads on the design, development, and implementation of the D&T engagement strategy.
- Works with the D&T Director and Senior leadership Team to define and develop employee engagement policies and frameworks.
- Plans and prioritises own work activities to ensure effective delivery of diverse responsibilities.
- Determines work plans and coordinates input from others to meet specific objectives.
Strategy and/or Planning:
- Devises analytical approaches to understand complex employee engagement and inequality.
- Leads on planning and implementing strategies and activities in support of the employee experience.
- Plans work activities based on current and future business needs.
Relationship and Stakeholder Management:
- Consults closely with internal customers and other stakeholders to understand current and future business needs.
- Liaises with Internal Comms on delivering D&T campaigns.
- Develops peer/personal networks within and outside the BC to enhance own knowledge and expertise.
- Provides expert professional advice, support, and challenge to internal customers and other stakeholders.
Commercial and/or Financial Management:
- Monitors and analyses the effectiveness of employee engagement and diversity initiatives, defining metrics and measuring results.
- Ensures that all D&T employee engagement and diversity activities are aligned with business priorities.
Service Improvement:
- Consults closely with internal customers to ensure the services and advice provided meet business demands.
- Provides specialist, functional expertise advice or ideas for the development and implementation of D&T change projects.
Professional Services Expertise:
- Applies advanced knowledge of employee engagement specialism to solve complex business issues.
- Provides specialist, functional expertise advice or ideas for the development and implementation of D&T change projects.
- Provides expert professional advice, support, and challenge to internal customers.
Sector/Subject Expertise:
- Supports diversity initiatives, advises on best practice, and ensures D&T policies, processes, procedures, and key activities reflect this.
Consultancy, Analysis, and Problem Solving:
- Devises analytical approaches to understand complex employee engagement and diversity opportunities.
- Provides specialist, functional expertise advice or ideas for the development and implementation of D&T change projects.
- Consults closely with internal customers and other stakeholders to understand current and future business needs and plans work activities accordingly.
Requirements Of The Role
Minimum/essential
- A track record of effective employee engagement initiatives.
- Communication Methodologies for Global Audiences.
- Deep understanding of all communication & engagement channels.
- Degree level or equivalent experience in Social Science & other business-related areas or Communications & Marketing.

Important Information:

- Annual Salary: £38,820 onwards plus London Market allowance of £3,300 if London-based
- Location: UK – (London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast).
This role is open to candidates based in all UK locations and on a permanent homeworking basis for staff already on permanent homeworking contracts.
