Role: Head of Communications – GBE‑N Programme
Location: Hybrid, based from one of our offices in Derby, Manchester, Warrington or London
Salary: we anticipate paying a salary in the £88,000 - £115,000 range
Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to the global energy crisis, positioning us as a world leader in SMRs and one of the UK’s premier green export technologies.
Our Corporate Affairs team plays a pivotal role in shaping the reputation, visibility, and impact of Rolls‑Royce SMR. We work at pace to influence stakeholders, engage communities, and communicate the value of our programme as we scale to deliver one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the UK.
In this context, we’re looking for a Head of Communications – GBE‑N Programme, reporting to the Director of Corporate Affairs. This high‑profile, public‑facing leadership role will shape public perception and build trust as we deliver the first three SMR units with Great British Energy – Nuclear.
We’ll need you to:
- Lead strategic communications and build public understanding of the GBE‑N programme.
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive public engagement strategy.
- Act as a credible spokesperson with media, political stakeholders, and industry audiences.
- Build and lead a high‑performing team to deliver impactful outcomes.

This is a pivotal, high‑visibility role at the heart of the UK’s clean energy transition — requiring a collaborative leadership style, strategic mindset, and first‑class communication skills.
You will be an articulate and strategic communicator with a deep understanding of complex stakeholder and regulatory environments, experienced working in infrastructure and or energy, and you’ll bring a proven track record of delivering impactful engagement programmes in highly regulated environments.

- Expertise in managing high-profile programmes with significant public, political, and media visibility.
- Confidence and credibility in representing the organisation across diverse platforms - from community forums, in the media and at industry conferences.
- The ability to navigate regulatory frameworks and political landscapes, ensuring consistent and effective messaging across all stakeholder groups.
- A collaborative leadership style, capable of aligning cross-functional teams and external partners around a unified communications strategy.
- Deep understanding of UK planning and regulatory frameworks.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to delivery.
